Can this take the place of the round tube filters I buy? If so how would you fasten it, so it doesn't come loose?

I am not sure what your round tube filter looks like or what it is made of. Our Pond filter pad can be wrap around a pipe and fastened with plastic cable ties. If you can provide more information about the tube filter we can better answer your question.
